From the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics to the Institute of Mathematics and Computer science: Chronicle of Higher Mathematical Education in Tyumen (1930-2016)

Abstract:

This paper is presented in an unusual format. Typically, a research paper includes related works, methodology, experimental data, discussion, conclusion, and references. Almost everything in the structure of this paper is different. There is no analysis. At the same time, the references are presented not only at the end of the paper, but also in the course of the narration. It is our understanding that the history of higher mathematical education in Tyumen is the history of outstanding and highly intelligent people, whose lives are bright and sometimes tragic. We have chosen the chronicle genre trying to collect the facts and being aware that there are still blind spots in this history. It took us long hours in archives, talks with retired professors and family members of departed colleagues to collect these facts, to identify people in the old photographs, and to date them at least approximately. We give the right of the evaluation and analysis to the readers.
