Abstract:

The paper is devoted to the difficulties of translation of English proverbs and sayings. Many English and Russian proverbs and sayings are polysemous, which makes them difficult to be interpreted and compared. While finding Russian translation equivalents for English proverbs, a required criterion was the matching of one of the meanings. The paper presents different variants of Russian equivalents for English proverbs and sayings.
