Abstract:
This article endeavors to analyze the functions of usage and methods of translating the synonymic pairs in English texts of different styles. One of the most complicated tasks for translating from English into Russian is the adequate choice of the word. A translator has to find the right word which is adequate to the English one, i.e. has the same meaning and stylistic nuance, and elicits the same associations from the reader. The translator usually uses the synonymic row of the Russian language for this purpose. The synonymy availability allows the translator to reach adequacy when translating.
