Abstract:
The paper considers the role of the word in realizing the magic function of the language. It investigates the verbal aspect of the ritual and analyzes the origin of old words meaning “letter”, “book”, “write” and of modern words derived from archaic ritual wishes. The author concludes that the language is the most durable depository of mythopoetic thinking.
